Foot Reflexology

Foot Reflexology in Barcelona

Therapies involve not only the mind but also the body, and foot reflexology helps to release tension. Each organ or area of the body is mapped on our feet, and these reflex zones are connected to our organs via our nerve endings. Through massage, the practitioner will unblock energies and improve blood circulation.

Reflexology effectively relieves functional disorders and releases tension throughout the body. Whether it's stimulating the immune system, regulating hormonal disorders, improving sleep and digestion or eliminating toxins, foot reflexology is an effective, relaxing massage that you can give or treat yourself to.

The history of foot reflexology

Reflexology has its roots in various ancient cultures. Evidence of practices similar to reflexology has been found in ancient Egypt, China and India.

  • Ancient Egypt: Frescoes found in the tomb of an Egyptian physician named Ankhamor, dating from 2330 BC, show scenes of foot and hand manipulation. This fresco is often cited as one of the earliest depictions of a practice similar to reflexology.

  • China: In China, foot therapy dates back some 4,000 years, when it was associated with traditional Chinese medicine such as acupuncture, in connection with the body's energy flows (Qi) and meridians.

  • India: Indian Ayurvedic medicine also mentions similar practices, where the feet are regarded as a microcosm of the body, containing points reflecting the body's organs and systems.

Reflexology, as we know it today, began to take shape in the late XIXᵉ and early XXᵉ centuries.

After the reflexology session, your practitioner will take the time to summarize the tensions detected and the areas for improvement.
